Visiting Guangzhou as a Thai National

Hi, I am a University Student and 20 years old looking to visit my Chinese friend based in Guangzhou. Is an Invitation Letter from his parents sufficient for me to apply for the L type? I don't want to be booking a round trip air ticket and if my L is not approved, the Tour Agency is only willing to return half the ticket price to me.

I heard from the grapevine that had visited PRC before, saying that I need to provide a recent bank statement with some money in it? Is that true? If yes, how much money should I have in the bank?

Yes, an invitation letter from your friend's parents is ok. But a copy of his/her Chinese ID or passport is also needed. As for the bank statement, I didn't find this requirements for L on the official website of Chinese embassy in Thailand. I suggest you confirm this with the embassy.

Even with an invitation letter, you also need a printout of your flight ticket OR, if you are travelling overland, you need to write out your itinerary for how you get to China (and maybe how you get out too, not sure).
