About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

Can I still get a free visa if I'm going from Doha - Chengdu - Doha?

If not possible do you have to come back via Dubai for instance? Also, what is the process in the airport or before departure to guarantee access into the country?

Sorry, you can't enjoy 72 hours free transit in Chengdu because the place of depature and your destination are the same place. If you fly Dubai-Chengdu-Doha, then you can enjoy 72 hours free transit. There is no complicated procedure at the airport. Just follow the signs and get a stamp on your passport. It's totally free.
