About:Chinese Consulate in Melbourne

Application and Purchasing Flight Overseas

Hi,

I am planning on applying for a visa so that I can visit a friend in Shanghai, China, as part of my trip to Hong Kong. I have not purchased the tickets to Shanghai yet, as I plan to purchase them in Hong Kong at a relatively cheaper price than Australia.
I was wondering if I am still able to apply for the tourist(L), in my Melbourne, based on my current situation?

Much appreciated on any advice.
David

Actually, you can ask your friend to send you an invitation letter and then you can apply for the L type with copy of his passport information page. Otherwise, a round-trip air tickets and hotel booking are required when you apply for it.

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for the response!
So basically my friend has to provide a photocopy or scan of her passport, and an invitation letter.
In regards to the invitation letter, what content is required within it?

Much appreciated once again.

If your friend is a foreigner, photocopies of her passport and residence permit are required.
The invitation letter should contain:

(1) Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.)

(2) Information on the planned visit (arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, etc.)

(3) Information on the inviting entity or individual (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual)
