About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Transit vs. Regular visa

I have a dual entry business visa (2 x 60 day) and will be traveling to Hong Kong via Beijing. Can I get a transit visa in Beijing if I am transiting from the US within 24 hours and heading for to Hong Kong, or must I use up one of the two entries in my business visa? This would mean using up one entry going through Beijing on the way to Hong Kong and the other when I return a few days later from Hong Kong to Guangzhou.

I think you can avoid using your dual entry M type because you can enjoy 72 hours free transit in Beijing.

FYI (further update) I had someone local check with immigration at Beijing; apparently if you have an actual visa of any form it takes priority over the transit type and therefore the transit type is not available. This means that if I transit through Beijing to Hong Kong I have to use up one of the entries.
