72 Hour Visa in Shanghai coming from Hong Kong

Greetings. I plan to arrive in Hong Kong Thursday evening. On Saturday I will take a day trip to Macau. I am an American citizen with an American passport. I know no special permissions are needed for either SAR. However, on Sunday from Hong Kong I plan to fly to Shanghai. My duration in Shanghai will be Sunday night to Wednesday afternoon. I believe I qualify for the 72 Hour transit but I wanted assurance and is there any paperwork I can fill out now prior to leaving?

Also, let me be clear, my starting destination is Chicago (USA) to Hong Kong and my return the following wednesday is Shanghai back to Chicago (USA).

If your stay in Shanghai is less than 72 hours, you will be qualified for the free transit. No other documents are needed except for your valid passport.
