About:Chinese Marriage

Do traditional Chinese engagement/wedding etiquettes apply in the case of a 57 year old single woman

We plan to marry in my country, the U.S.A. She has never been married, but has a 19 year old daughter. Also,
She is taking me to meet her parents, should I ask her father for her hand to show respect? Since she and I are
both older, and it is my second marriage, I wondered what Chinese expectations for an engagement, wedding
would be. I plan to give her a very nice diamond engagement ring. Also, our parents are in their 80s! Thank you

Hi, it is certainly applied to your engagement and wedding. It is nice to give her a diamond ring for engagement. However, it may be not necessary to as her father for her hand, but you should let her father know your love to your fiancee. You should bring her parents some gifts as well as a Red Packet with some money in it, which may show your respect to them. After all, you will take their daughter abroad.
Anyway, just for your reference!

Mike, how do I know how much money to give to her parents for our engagement? Would an appropriate amount of gold also be acceptable? Is it still true that it is good to give sums with the number nine in them? Thank you!
