About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

A US citizen visiting in Taiwan

I am currently visiting in Taiwan. I am a US citizen and I am interested to visit family in Guangzhou. Am I allowed to use this 72 hour visa free permit if I have confirmed plane tickets from Taipei to Guangzhou for 2 days, then to Hong Kong for 3 days, and back to Taipei?

I think it is ok if you have a confirmed ticket leaving from Guangzhou to Hong Kong within 72 hours. Anyway, it is advisable to contact the airline or the airport directly for further confirmation.
