About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

Residence permit with new employer is pending

Hi, I am working in shanghai who gave me visa until April 2014 but in Aug 2013 I quit my job so they cancelled my work permit(I had to deposit WP back to them) but the Z remained same on my passport.
Now I started working in a new company and they helped to get the work permit and the next step was to apply for residence permit. In between I have got some really urgent work in my native country so I need to travel there for 3 days . I would like to confirm if it is okay for me to travel first and after I come back I can apply for residence permit ? My company HR says it's okay but still I want to make sure that it will not create any problem when I enter china.

If your current residence permit is valid, it is ok for you to exit and re-enter with it.

Could it be possible that my ex-employer cancelled my residence permit?please note I never gave them my passport to cancel anything

Hi, the fact is that they can cancel your visa and get your residence permit revoked. In order to get a new work permit, the dismissal letter from your ex-employer and the working permit cancellation list are required.

I am sorry to trouble but looking for a more specific answer, can my employer cancel my residence permit without physically taking my passport?

I am afraid that your employer can do that even without taking your residence permit.

Your employer cannot cancel your resident permit without the related passport. I happened to be in such situation in Guangdong province and know about similar cases.
