About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

U.S. citizen working in Japan

I am working on a U.S. base in Japan and visiting my son for 6 days who is working in Beijing. Do I have to go to the Chinese Embassy to apply for a visa or can I mail it?

As I know, you should apply through a local travel agency there.
