About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

I would like to know I am holding US PASSPORT, how long stay I don't need to apply visa

I am flying from New york to hong kong , then on Dec. 12 fly to Shanghai , on Dec. 14 fly to Japan,

You are allowed 72 hours stay for a transit in Shanghai.
