About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

2 stops in China (German resident)

Hello!
I booked a flight to Beijing from Mongolia (30.10.13 / Arrival: 5.35pm).
Then I booked seperately a flight from Beijing to Kuala Lumpur, but with
a stopover in Kanton (Guanghzou) (31.10.13 / Depart from Kanton at 2.40pm).

So my total time in China won´t be more than 24h. Do I have to apply for a chinese transit G,
and is it possible to pick up the luggage from Beijing in order to check in again for the second flight without a visa?

And do you get the 72h-free directly on the Airport, or do you have to apply in advance for it?

Thank you so far!

72 hour free transit permit is issued to direct transit passengers, so it is not applicable if you will stop in both Beijing and Guangzhou. Anyway, if you stay in total is less than 24 hours, visa is not required. You just need to apply for a stay permit after arrival at Beijing International Airport. Sure you can pick up your luggage during transit.
