L-visa extensions

Is it possible to extend your expired L-visa more than 1x30 days?
It used to be 2x30 days, but with the new rules - everybody is a bit confused about that...

You can't extend it if it is already expired.

It has not expired yet, but will in the end of the week, so I would like to find out if it is possible to extend it 2 times and save a trip to Hong Kong - or if I have to take an expensive trip to Hong Kong, wait for 4 days, get a new one and then head home... Or get that extended.

According to the previous rules, L type can be extended twice at most at the local PSB. However, some people said that it was impossible to do extension after the new regulations was adopted. I think you should visit the local PSB as soon as possible and confirm if you can extend it or not. You know, it takes a week to deal with the extension if you really can extend it.

By the way, it seems that it is impossible to apply in HK. According to the latest regulation, the applicants who apply in Hk must have HK resident status. Thus, I am afraid that you might not apply there.
