About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit
I am flying from Vancouver Canada to Shanghai and then to Australia I have a 15hr lay over in shanghaii can I leave the airport
what documentation will I need to do this?

Yes, you need to apply for the stay permit when you land at the airport. It's just a stamp on your passport.
