About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Am I qualified for 72 hour Visa-Free Transit Between September 3 and September 5 and between September 13 and 15?

I'm flying into Shanghai September 3rd With American airlines from New York City. September 5th, I fly to Bangkok with Cathay Pacific and return to Shanghai September 13. I fly out of Shanghai September 15 to Los Angeles. I will be staying at the hotel and I am an American citizen holding an American passport.

Well, you meet all the requirements. But I am not sure if you can enjoy the 72 hours free transit successfully. The airport authorities migh think that you take the advantage of the policy to escape applying for Chinese visa since the interval that you leave and arrive PRC is very short.
