Does my flight qualify for the 72-Hour visa policy in Beijing and Shanghai

I am from the USA. I will be flying from Osaka, Japan to BJ with a short layover in Shanghai. Two days later I have a ticket to fly from BJ to Kuala Lumpur with a short layover in Shanghai (the only way I could get out of China). It is my understanding that since all my flights were booked together and I have confirmed tickets to leave China within 72-hours that this is ok. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks!

I am afraid that the 72 hour visa policy is not availabel for you. If you only transit in BJ or in SH, that policy is applicable.

Thanks, Lynn. So I changed my flight. I have a flight from KIX to ICN to PEK on Aug. 8 and a flight from PEK to KUL on Aug. 10. They are not the same airline, but neither transits in another Chinese city. I should be ok now, right? When I get to BJ and talk with the customs folks, how do you show them you have reservations on a flight two days later? Any specific paperwork that's required, or will they have my name in a database? Thanks!

I think this time, you change you flight to be transfered at PEK, right?
If so, this policy is available for you.
If you want to enjoy the 72-hour free visa policy, you need to contact the airline company before you head to Beijing and they will help you to apply for it.
When you are at the custom, you just need to show them your passport and the connecting tickets.

Thanks, Lynn. The flight out of BJ isn't until the 10th and I get into that city on the 8th. I can't check in for my flight on the 10th until the 24 hours before the flight so I won't have an actual boarding pass until the 9th at the earliest. I have a reservation on the flight out of the city so I'm hoping that's enough. That must be a common occurance. Thanks!
