hotel accomodation area in Shanghai

hi everyone, We are a family of 4 with 2 small kids aged 8 and 1 years. I am landing at Hongqiao International Airport in a few days after visiting Macau HK and Beijing. we have a 2 day and 2 night trip at SH. I have the following queries:-
1. What area should i book an accomodation as we are landing at Hongqiao International Airport and will that area be near to the main tourist attractions. my outward journey is also from Hongqiao International Airport so will it be a good idea to stay next to this airport or somewhere else to cover tourist attractions?
2. i intend to visit the main tourist attraction such as The Bund, Nanjing Road, Yuyuan Garden, Shanghai Museum, Oriental Pearl TV Tower, World Financial Center, Huaihai Road, North Sichuan Road and Huangpu River cruise.
3. Could somebody paln an itinerary for me covering these areas and what buses/ MTR should i catch from one place to another to cover these places?
4. I have heard of a tourist bus which covers certain area and is that an ok idea to go around and can we devaiate from the bus route to catch the next bus or there is only one bus per day per route?
thanks and regards

It is suggested to live the city center area, maybe Nanjing Road area or the People Square. There you can easily reach the attractions you want to visit.

1st day: You can go to Yuyuan Garden in the morning, then go to Nanjing Road in the afternoon. At night, the Bund and Huangpu River Cruise can be arranged.
2nd day:Shanghai Museum, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and World Financial Center can be visited first. Then if you still have time, you can go to Sichuan Road. The places you want to travel can be easily connnected together by the local subways.

Yes, you are right. The local sightseeing bus cover most of the places you plan to go. You can get off the bus to visit the attractions and then wait for next another bus at the station to travel again.

Hi, Puneet, what is your budget?
Generally speaking, the Hanting, Home Inn and 7 days Inn are suggested, because they are comparatively cheap.

Thanks Bill again,
1. I have booked at Manhattan Jinling Business Hotel. The address is- No. 58, Henan South Road, Huangpu District.
2. The site says its about 15 km from Hongqiao Airport. I am reaching at about 1000h from Beijing. Does this hotel provide any pick up if you have any idea. Request fastest and cheapest way to reach hotel. What bus no/ metro to take to the hotel. How much time does it take. Assuming we come out of the airport at 1030/1100 what time can we expect to reach hotel?
3. After checking in it becomes about say 1200H. what is are the best options for me to cover the sight seeing items as i had written at point 2 and 3. Could you suggest an itenary for us? Can we use the sight seeing bus or its better to cover items on our own transport ie using bus/ metro?
4. Considering these factors please suggest an itenary for 2 days. Third day i have a flight at 1345 h and i think i may not have time to cover anything
thanks and regards

As far as I know, the hotel does not provide the pick up service from Hongqiao Railway Station. From Hongqiao airport, you can take the subway line 10 to reach Yuyuan Station directly. The ticket fare is 5RMB per person for adult and takes about 40 to 50 minutes on the way to reach Yuyuan Station.
You can visit the Yuyuan Garden first, because it is just near your hotel. Then from Yuyuan Garden, you can take the subway line 10 to reach East Nanjing Road to have a visit. In the late aftenoon and evening, you can visist the Bund and the Huangpu River Cruise.
On the next day, you can go to visit the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and World Financial Center at first. Then go back to visit the North Sichuan Road, SH Museum and the Huaihai Road.
In my opinion, it is suggested to use the sightseeing buses. I think you can cover most of the attractions you mentioned.

Hope you can have a nice trip in SH.

Here is the info. I know:
1. The Bund is within walking distance from Nanjing Road, so there is no need to take any transportation. Nanjing Road is around 1.5km from the Huangpu River cruise and bus no. 65 is highly recommended except walking.

2. I remember there is a Ticketing Center at no. 171, South Zhongshan Road. It costs CNY100 per person. The journey takes around an hour.

3. But what do you mean by "how much time will Bund area take……"? Personally, the night cruise can be more beautiful.

As for taking the sightseeing bus from your hotel, the nearest station should be Nanjing Road (east) at Exit 2 of subway Line 10, Henan Middle Road. You can easily walk there to take.

Dear Jason,
Thanks a ton for your info.Would request you if you could please clarify:-
1. Is Bund and Huangpu river cruise same or Bund area by itself is different. If they are diffrenet and i presume they are next to each other would it be better to cover cruise first and then Bund area or the other way round. How much time will it require to cover Bund area at a normal speed with 2 small kids?
2. In the earler suggestion Bill had told me to go to World Oriental TV tower and then World Financial tower and in the afternoon: North Sichuan Road, SH Museum and Huai Hai road and also suggested that i can take the sight seeing bus.
3. I would like to know whether the sight seeing bus follows the same route?
4. Which is the place to catch sight seeing bus next to Manhattan Jinling Hotel?
5. If the sight seeing bus does not follow the same route what buses to catch leaving from thehotel in the morning to civer these places in sequence?
Thanks again Bill and Jason for helping me so much with all your efforts. Regards

1. The Bund and Huangpu River cruise is at the same area. Generally, people travel between on foot. To cover the whole area of the Bund for small kids, it may need 40min or more.

2. The route you list is a little similar to sighseeing bus, which (line 1) can take you for viewing in this route in details: East Nanjing Road - Garden Bridge on the Bund - Customs House on the Bund - Huangpu River Cruise Terminal on the Bund - Yuyuan Garden - Huaihai Middle Road - SH Museum
Sightseeing bus line 2 can take you to view SH Museum and Oriental Pearl TV Tower.

3. From your hotel, you can walk 1.3.1.5km to East Nanjing Road Station at Exit 2 of subway Line 10, Henan Middle Road to catch the sighseeing bus.
