About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

US to China to Japan to US

If I am flying from the US to Shanghai, and then on the way back from Shanghai to the US I am stopping in Tokyo for a few days, can I use the 72 hour free transit for Shanghai? Technically I am going to a third country after Shanghai, but I am eventually going back to the US and the Tokyo trip would just be a multiple day stopover.

How about your ticket? if it shows that you will return to US via Japan, you have to apply for a Chinese transit G in advance for this visit.
