Do taxi drivers know how to speak and understand english language in Shanghai?

I am afraid that most of the local drivers cannot speak English.

I do suggest that you have the address of where you are going written in Chinese. What happened to me was the taxi driver called up the Booking Attendant and the Booking attendant interpreted to the taxi driver where I intended to go.
