10 hours wait Stopover in Xiamen

We have a ticket for family of 4, my 2 sons are British passport while me and my wife are Philippine passport. We will depart from Birmingham UK which included a 10 hours wait stopover in Xiamen Airport before reaching Manila. Since it is arriving on daytime probably no trnsit hotel accomodation will be provided by the airline. and we are planning to go beyond the airport for short break in the Xiamen City. My question is do we need a transit visa? is it from airline we need an advance notification? or when we arriving at Xiamen Airport and go strait to Frontier Inspection for permission. Thank you very much

Visa is not required for a stopover less than 24 hours, but if you plan to go out of the airport during stopover, you need to apply for a stay permit at the airport Frontier Inspection.
