Flight from Bali to Germany with 12 hour stopover in Shanghai

Hi there,
we are two German citizens flying from Bali back to Germany on the 25 July and we have a 12 hours stopover at Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Both of us have valid German passports and the flight from Bali back to Germany is already booked.
Are we going to be able to get the 72 hours Transit Visa which allows us to leave the airport for those 12 hours?
If so, what exactly do we have to do to get it? Contact the airline and ask for it or how does it work?
Thanks a lot for a quick answer.
Carina

Yes, you are eligible to use this free transit. Please inform your airline for the transit request so that they will send you a form and email your transit information to the border control authorities at the airport. Then, you will get the permit upon arrival.
