About:Chinese Embassy in Australia

we will be cruising to hong kong, xiemen and staying one night in shanghai. which type of visa is required?

You need to apply for a double entry tourist L visa. BTW, you did not mention which passport you hold, I am just thinking you are exempted from one to HK.

You are correct. But it is for visiting purpose only. You can stay there for 90 days.
