I just know a story about the temple's origin.
In Qing Dynasty, a Buddist called Huigen traveled to a beautful valley in Guangxi Province. After a sleep, he found a perfect jade and he thought to carved a statue of Buddha using this jade. So he went out of the valley to ask the local people for some money and help. Then he heard that there is an excellent sculptor in Burma, so he tried his best to move that jade to Burma to be carved. After 162 days, two statues of Buddha were carved. In his dream, he was told to put the statues in Shanghai, so he tried his best to move them back and built this temple to put them.
