Opening a business in China

I am currently employed in China, and have been for four years. I am on a Z visa. I am thinking of opening my own business with partners (one of whom is Chinese). Am I allowed to do this while on my Z type? If not, then what should I do?

No, your current 'Z' is linked to your current work. If you want to start a business, you need to exit and get a F for business or L longer enough to start a business registration. After getting the business license and Alien Workers Licence attached to your new business, you can apply for a new Z.
