Guatemalan Resident but a U.S. citizen do I obtain the visa?

Guatemala does not have an Embassy or consulate here. I asked the U.S. Embassy personnel and was told to check the yellow pages. I will be visiting Mexico in about ten days, can I go to the Embassy in Mexico City? My other option is that we will be in the United States where we also have a home. May I go to the consulate in NYC. Since I will not have much time I am not able to leave my passport off for more than a day or so. How can I expedite getting the visa? Will the consulate in NYC do it with in a day or two?

If you are Guatemalan resident, you can submit your application to Chinese embassy in Costa Rica. To apply in Mexico is impossible.
To apply with express service in NYC is possible, visa can be obtained on the second or third working day (approval required).
