Hi, if you will return to HK from Shanghai, visa is required for this trip. But if you transit through shanghai with ticket to another country, this 72 hour free transit is applicable for you.

I have the same question but what I want to ask is that does Hongkong count as a third country? because it is international flight still from beijing to hongkong.

My itinerary is Seoul to beijing to hongkong, can I apply for the free transit permit?
