72 hour trip - American with Korean E-2

I am a US citizen, living and working in South Korea on an E-2. My family is coming to visit me in June and we would like to visit Beijing for ~72 hours. Will I be able to visit, via the 72 hour exemption, or will I need to pay for/ obtain one for this short trip? I will have just over six months left in my ARC at the time of said trip. Thank you in advance for your reply!

Hi, visa is not required if you travel from South Korea via Beijing to another region or country and the stopover is less than 72 hours. But if you will return to South Korea, you have to apply for one in advance.
