If you booked a tour with a travel agency, the confirmation of tour package is required, as well as the hotel reservations and return ticket.

Hi, you may search online for an agency based in HK. As I know, if you have hotel booking return ticket, and enough money (at least USD100 per day per person) to cover your travel in China, you can also travel without travel agency.

It depends on which part of Kowloon you want to go to. It takes about 20 minutes to reach Kowloon Station on the Airport Express. Most of the hotels in Kowloon are no more than 45 minutes from the airport, if you use the MTR for the whole journey. If you book a hotel around Jordan/Yau Ma Tei, you could even take a short bus ride from Kowloon Station, which would be much quicker than taking the MTR to these areas (because you would need to change trains at Tsing Yi and Lai King).
