About:Chinese Consulate in Edinburgh

Daughter living in Spain

My daughter and I are going in a few weeks to visit my other daughter who lives in Shenzhen. We are Scottish, I live in Scotland but my daughter lives in north Spain until July. It was very easy for me to apply to Edinburgh, I posted my passport and documents and received it back in post within a week.
However - my daughter is having more trouble in Spain. She had to get a 4hr bus journey to Madrid and took the same documents I had. But the Chinese consulate in Madrid said it wasn't enough - they wanted her birth certificate, my daughter in china's birth certificate and also an official lease/accommodation letter from my daughter.
My daughter in Spain has none of these and my daughter infact does not even have an official document or anything with her lease printed on it
Is there no way I can apply to Edinburgh for my daughter who is in Spain?

That is right, proof of relationship is required for family visit L application. If it is impossible for her to get birth certificates and invitation, you may have a try to apply in Edinburgh. According to Chinese regulation, applicants should be personally in the country of application, so it risks if sending back application. Maybe it is better if she can go with you from Scotland to China.

Also I did not require proof of relationship when applying here in Edinburgh. And it does not say that on Chinese consulate website. What if it was a fried we were visiting? It wouldn't require birth certificates then, it doesn't make sense.

If visiting friend, applicants are also required to provide invitation letter, and copies of inviter's residence permit or Z. So, your daughter should ask for an letter and documents they want in order to get it in Madrid.
