Is there a dowry required for the male of the female to be given in holy matrimony ?

In main stream Chinese custom, it is the male's family who give to the female's family, as a "Bride price". He will send gifts and money to the bride's family to compensate their lost of a family member (who, in the old days, would have been a very valuable resource to the family).

Yes,different place has different custom about dowry.
