is it safe for a woman to travel to chengdu by herself without speaking chinese?

I'm thinking of going to Chengdu sometime in March for a week by myself, but people are telling me that it's not safe for me to go by myself since I don't speak the language.  Can you let me know if this is correct and if it is, do you know of any tours that I can look into.  Also, is there any hotel or safe area that I should stay around with easy transportation to get around.

Well, it is indeed a little bit difficult to explore the city if you do not speak local language. But Chengdu is a big city with convenient transportation, so it will be ok for you to visit the city area as long as you are adequately prepared. I suggest you stay at hotels in downtown area, such as Chunxi Road.
