obtaining a 6 month multiple entry visa for china in kathmandu

I am a Canadian citizen currently out traveling with my Danish husband.  We will not be returning to our home countries before visiting Nepal and China so we are wondering if it is possible to obtain a 6 month multiple entry visa for China in Kathmandu?  While in China we plan to backpack around (no specific itinerary yet) as well as visit my aunt and uncle in Chengdu.  I am also wondering if we need a detailed itinerary of our trip for application or perhaps just an entry plane ticket/first night hotel booking?  Do we need an invitation letter?  Any advice on the best/easiest way to obtain it would be much appreciated!!

Have you visited China before? if not, it might be difficult for you to get a multiple entry visa. A single entry L is easy to get from Chinese embassyt in Kathmandu. For tourist visa application, either an invitation letter, or return ticket & hotel reservation is requried. If your aunt and uncle are living in Chengdu, you can ask them for an invitation letter, then ticket and hotel booking are not necesary.

Hi, thanks for your response!  I have visited China twice (once for a 6 month teaching contract and the second as a tourist) but this will be my husband's first visit.  If we end up with a single entry visa is it possible to visit tibet and then return to china or would that require a double entry visa?

Tibet is within mainland, a single entry visa can cover this if you do not leave mainland. But you need to get a Tibet Travel Permit through a travel agency other than a Chinese visa.
