72 hour visa exemption

I am flying from London via Amsterdam to Beijing Pek and on the same day 3 hours later i fly to my end destination Hong Kong for 12days so i will not be exiting the airport. On my return I then fly Hong Kong to Beijing via Paris to London. We plan on being in Beijing for 62 hours and do some sightseeing do we require a visa or do we qualify for the 72 hour transit visa exemption. This is for the arrival and departure. Thank you very much

It is ok for your first stopover in Beijing without visa. And for your return trip, if you have confirmed flight ticket from Beijing to London via Paris, you can enjoy the 72 hour visa exemption.

When do you need to ask the airline (we are flying on China Eastern) to request the 72 hour Visa exemption - for example, days or weeks before your flight leaves for Shanghai or as you board the flight for Shanghai or as you are flying on the airplane...Thank you very much.

You can inform the airline staff before you board the flight to Shanghai.
