Shanghai short stopover

My wife and I are flying to Shanghai arriving April 23rd 2013. We stay 2 nights and the join a Celebrity Cruise ship on April 25th. Our total time in Shanghai is less than 72 hours. We are both Britsh citizens and have valid passports. Can you please advise whether we need to apply for visas, or will this be covered by the 72 hour short stay exemption

Your situation is special, since you will leave for the third destination by cruise. My advice is try to make a confirmation with your air company directly.
