About:

My son is making plans for a trip to Lishui, China on the cheap.

He's thinking he wants to fly to Shanghai and take a train to Lishui, but I'm thinking he should spend the little extra to fly into Hangzhou and take a bus. Any suggestions?

Do you mean he should fly to Shanghai and then fly to Hangzhou and then take a bus for LS?

Actually, there is only one train running from Shanghai to Li Shui, departing at midnight. The whole journey takes around 8h. Trains between Hangzhou and the destination are more frequent and convenient. It takes around 5h. There are frequent buses from Hangzhou to his destination city.
