Chinese Visa Application for a freelancer

Hello, I am planning to visit a trip in Beijing some time this March. I have all the requirements for a Chinese tourist visa except for certificate of employment and income tax return as I am a freelancer. My employer does not give employment certificates nor do we pay taxes as my work is only through online. Can I declare my employment status as unemployed? Or do we have other options for this?

You may try to declare as self-employed, I think it is not a problem if you can provide bank statement.

If I declare myself as self employed do I need to provide proof of income too?
