We are looking to experience the cities, culture and the countryside as well. Could you also give a rough time scale for the trip and rough budget please, considering that we will have tents and will rough it some nights!
Any tips and information will be apprecieated

Well, the distance from Beijing to Hong Kong is so long and the route covers many different provinces along the road. You will pass Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Hunan and Guangzhou.
In Henan, Shaolin Temple, Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang city and Baima Temple are worth seeing. In Hubei, the Three Gorges Dam are must seeing. Fenghuang, Zhangjiajie and Changsha are the better to go. In Guangdong, Guangzhou and Shenzhen Cities are worthy going.
If you want to enjoy the the culture and sceneries, trains are suggested. The time and money for your traveling may be so long and its exact time depends on which place do you want to go.
I think you can follow the cities I suggested to find their detail information on this website, and you make your arrangement in detail. If you still have any problems, you can ask on this website and I think you can get a more specific answers.
