Travel between train stations in Guangzhou

What is the easiest way to get to GZ East Station from GZ South station? We are arriving on the high speed station from Beijing and want to go to HK.

From the South Station, you can take subway line 2 to Gongyuanqian and then transfer to subway line 1 to the East Railway Station.

It would be quicker & easier to take the High speed train (perhaps even the same train) from GZ South to Shenzhen North and then cross the border to LoWu.
