Visa required?

I fly into Guanzhou / Baiyun International Airport arriving 10 Jan at 5:10 and departing that evening at 21:30.
I am an Australian citizen. Can you let me know if I can exit the airport to stay at the hotel as I do not have a visa because I'm just transitting.h

You can apply for a stay permit from the airport if you want to go out of the airport. Visa is not required since your stopover is less than 24 hours.
