About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Toronto-Beijing-Malaysia

I am a Canadian travelling to Malaysia via Peking, and will stay for 2 days in Peking to visit family during the transit. I am travelling on two separate airlines for the Toronto-Peking and then Peking-Malaysia segments. Have confirmed flights and hotel bookings. Do I need a visa?
