I am an Australia visiting Hongkong, Macau and the cities next to Hongkong or Macau for a few days (less then 10 days). Do I require to apply for visas

You are not required visa to HK and Macao, but if you want to visit mainland China, you need to apply for a Chinese tourist visa in advance. But if the neighbouring towns refers to Shenzhen or zhuhai, you can get a visa on arrival.
