Visiting late December, queries about general tourism in Harbin

I'm thinking of going to that city in late December, but I only speak a few European languages. Is it easy to get around the city to see the sights for someone that doesn't speak Chinese? And how would I go about it? Also, is there good, inexpensive accommodation? Is it safe for a single woman to travel around this area? I've researched the main attractions, and it looks like a nice place.

Well, dear Kay, do not worry about it. If you can speak English, you can travel there easily. I know many foreign friends travel to that city every year.
In my opinion, the Bremen Inn and the Post Hotel are two good ones. Be ease to travel there on your own and you will know a different city.

Hey Kay,
believe me, it's not easy.
Few people speak english on the street and are willing to help you.
There is no subway so you rely on the busses or taxis. Taxidrivers don't speak english and they will always try to trick you. Also the bus routes are more than complicated and only explained in chinese.
I've been in that city for three months and I'm still having trouble finding my way around the city.
