fly for/tu datong

does is it reccomended the fly Bejing-Datong and viceversa? Does it has some risk? Why all journeys between the two cities are by train? I'd like to take the nightly fly leaving bejing at about 22.30. Thank you

Sure, you can take the flight for the journey. Generally, it is safe enough.
The journey by train may want the visitors to view the secery along the journey and many visitors prefer that way. Another reason is that the trains are more frequent on schedule than the airs.
