About:Chinese Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago

I have a 12 hour layover in Shanghai on my way to New York (I live in Japan).

If I want to leave the airport and go to a hotel, do I need to get a transit visa?

You need to apply for a transit visa in advance if you will go out of the airport.
