American citizen applying Chinese visa in Korea

I'm studying abroad in Korea right now and after my quarter ends I'm thinking about going to China to visit my relatives. I was wondering can I go to the China embassy in Korea to apply for a visa? because I've read something about they won't do individual visa unless it is with a travel agency.

Yes, you should apply through travel agency for a visa to China. BTW, your ARC should be valid for at least 6 months if you want to apply in South Korea.
