No I don't have residency or a work visa as I am only in Switzerland for 1 week. But I do have a letter of invitation from the Chinese government for the swimming World Cup.

Considering your condition, you will have to apply for the visa in your home country even if you have the the official invitation letter. Anyway, you may have a try in Switzerland when you are there first. The visa ruels are change frequently.
