Lay-over query in Guangzhou airport

I have an 8hr lay-over during the day returning from Dubai to Sydney. Will my luggage be automatically transferred to my next flight or will i have to retrieve it and check in again? If not, is it worth using the Left Luggage facilities to store my bags and head into the city for a few hours?
