Visa for layover?

I have a layover in Beijing for 7 1/2 hours. I want to take a tour of the Great Wall. Do I need a visa just to leave the airport for a few hours??

If you plan to leave the airport, you can apply for a transit visa in advanve from Chinese embassy or consulate in your place.

If you are not leaving the airport and if you are in the airport less than 24 hours, you do not need a visa. You just need proof of your flight that is leaving Beijing, which will just be your plane ticket.
