Visa query - going to China from the UK but live in Aus

I am a UK citizen with a British passport but live in Australia on a working 457 Visa. I am travelling back to the UK for a holiday and then stopping off in China to meet a friend on the way back and spending a few days in Shanghai. What type of Visa do I need to get and do I need to apply for it from the UK or Australia?

You need to apply for a China tourist visa in UK. To apply in Australia is also ok since you have working visa there. Here you are suggested to apply in UK with UK passport, it is easier.
