Transit visa for my stopover in Shanghai

I am a Vietnamese but currently I am a Japanese citizen now since I am studying here. I have a flight flying from Delhi to Tokyo and transit at Shanghai for 22 hours. I plan to go out of the airport and visit the city. Do I need to apply for transit visa? Which kinds of papers needed to submit in case I need a transit visa? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you need to apply for a transit visa in advance if you plan to leave the airport to look around the city. The documents needed are:
1. your passport with blank pages and at least 6 months validity left before expiration.
2. application form V2011A affixed with passport-size or 2x2 colored photo
3. the onward air ticket.
