Travelling via Shanghai Pu Dong from Aust to UK with a UK Pasport. Staying 40 hours do I need visa?

I want to extend my transfer time from 17 hours to 41 hours by adding an extra day so I see some of Shanghai. Do I need a visa as I am staying less than 48 hours. There was no reference to allow this if you have UK pasports on the web site.
